what is aperture?

Aperture

Hello Guys! Now a days photography is most important and useful thing. photography is only give again our lovable memories. Everyone can take photos because we have mobile phones and camera. But professional is rare one. But I did not say it's difficult. we can become professional, if have some knowledge about photography.

In this blog I give lot of ideas and tutorial about photography. So follow me for become professional photographer. photography is mainly based on three concept. That is Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO. In photography term we call "Exposure Triangle". It is consider like Three Pillars of Photography.

Exposure Triangle

What is Aperture?

Aperture means "Hole". That means our lens has hole (lens's blades) in particular sizes. In photography term " How much Amount of light pass through the lens, that is called Aperture". I think it is seem like optical subject. Don't get worry about that, we can learn casually.

For Example, Just imagine- our human eyes has carnia.

Behind carnia has Iris membrane, this iris control pupil hole. The iris can able to shrinking and expanding. If you see in dark area iris automatically control pupil to expand hole and enter large amount light enter into eye, in the same way if you see in bright area pupil shrink and allow to enter small amount of light for get clear image. In the same method works in camera. In camera, lens's blades  are work like pupil.

Size of the Aperture:

According to photography, Aperture size is called F-stops. F-stop means size of the aperture. If simply say, Diameter of the blades.

Commonly, Aperture is start f1.4 to f22. some camera has above f22. If Aperture number will be increase , Aperture size will be Decrease.
  • Small Number = Large Aperture
  • Large Number = Small Aperture
we can see in this picture. Here f1.4 is small Number but the blade is open widely. Last number f22 is large number but the blade is open lightly. In the same way, if blades open widely, more light will pass through the lens. we can use in portrait photography. if blades open narrow level, small amount of light pass through the lens. we can use in landscape photography.

Main purpose of Aperture:

In photography, we will give more important of Aperture. Because, aperture is doing most important Two works.
  1. control How much amount of light pass through the lens.
  2. control Depth Of Field.

What is Depth of Field:

"How much area will be focus in our picture", that is decided by Depth of Field.

In portrait mode, our subject only focus, background is fully blur. It's called shallow depth of field.

In landscape mode, total image should be focus like foreground, middle ground and background are focus. It's called large depth of field. Thus, subject only focus and total image focus, it is all decided by Depth of Field.
For example Two images are here. First image subject only focus and the second image is fully focus.

What aperture is best for Portrait and Landscape?

For Portrait f1.8 to f4 is the best. When you take shot between f1.8 to f4 (depends on situation). you can get subject only focus and background fully blur.
For Landscape f8 to f11 is the best.  When you take shot between f8 to f11(depends on situation).  You can get foreground, middle ground and background everything focus.

This is all about Aperture. In camera, aperture is normal one and so many lens available here for camera. But mobile camera is not like that, Because Aperture is fixed in mobile cameras when mobile manufacture. Don't very about that. We will be professional in mobile photography.
