 Shutter Speed

One of the pillars of photography is "Shutter Speed".  Shutter speed is most important for freeze any moments and control light also. Now we need to talk about shutter speed, yah absolutely cause our hero is shutter speed. Before know about shutter speed, we surely have knowledge about shutter.

what is Shutter?

Shutter is camera's door. For Example when you close your eye by eye lid, you feel like dark.

Like that, when you open your eye by eye lid, you can see what you have in your front. At the same manner, camera shutter is work like eye lid. camera shutter = Eye lid. Both have same process.

what does shutter do in camera?

In our camera has two curtains when you ON the shutter button shutter will open, light will collect by sensor that how long open, then will automatically close. see this video for clear information. This is the process of Shutter.

what is Shutter Speed?

" The amount of Time shutter is open". That means, how long shutter is open, image will record in camera sensor till shutter open then close shutter and record will stop. If you set 1/2 s shutter speed in your camera. Now ON shutter button shutter will open upto half second and image will record, when finish half second shutter will close. 

How to do measure?

Shutter speed is measured by fraction of a second. Typically shutter speed is in whole number and fraction number.

shutter speed has two type shutter speed. one is slow shutter speed and next fast shutter speed.

which is Slow Shutter speed and when will use:

slow shutter is start in 1/15 to 30s.

slow shutter speed (1/15s to 1/2s)is mostly used in unmovable situation like standing human, buildings, mountain, tree etc., I already mention slow shutter speed is 1/15s to 30s, but now I talk about just 1/15s to 1/2s. Then when will use 1s to 30s? Yah That is used for long exposure shots, tails etc.

which is fast Shutter speed and when will use:

Fast shutter speed is start with 1/500s to 1/8000s.

Fast shutter speed is mostly used in movable object. you can freeze any kind of fast moments like flying birds, race cars, sports etc., 

ok! slow and fast shutter speed finished. Now you have doubt about 1/30s to 1/250s. what is it. Its commonly called Moderate shutter speed.

What is the purpose of Shutter Speed:

Shutter speed has mainly two purpose. one is condition of light and second is motion.

Condition of light:

Just think, first you fix shutter speed in slow shutter speed (1/15s). Now our camera will open more time so image will be bright.

second you fix shutter speed in high shutter speed (1/500s). Now our camera will open less time so image will be Dark.

This is condition light.

Motion:

See the first picture.

I took this Insect's picture with 1/15s. Actually this beetle just shake their antenna so I can't freeze this moment in 1/15s and get some blur in picture.

Second picture is captured with 1/320s that motion was freeze. I can get clear sharp image.
